Sunset Middle School is located in South Longmont about 4 miles from Niwot. Bussing is provided. The school has recently been remodeled and updated with an eductional facility designed to promote student learning.
Sunset has gained statewide recognition in the implementation of Standards
Based Education. Teachers and staff have participated in a number of staff development
opportunities to improve
and strive for academic excellence with a standards based focus. The staff is composed of sixty
staff members including forty-six licensed teachers.
This totals over 400 years of experience in working with middle level students. Sunset's music
department has also
been recognized nationally with the Jazz band performance at the National Middle School
Conference in
November, 1999. Many of the teachers have been recognized at the community, district and state
levels.

Parents at Sunset play an active role in the school climate and learning environment. With over 150 parent volunteers ranging from front office help, fun raising, student registration, and mentor program, to classroom aides, parents have had high regard for involvement. Business partnerships are designed to enhance and maintain student interest. "Mission To Mars," made possible with the support of Ball Aerospace in Boulder and the archeological project supported by the University of Colorado, are just two examples of meaningful activities provided for the students at Sunset Middle School.
