Our School & Its Community - Niwot Elementary is located in Niwot. It is named in honor of Chief Niwot of the Arapahoe tribe, the first settlers of this area. Construction on Niwot Elementary was completed in 1967. Over 500 students are taught by an experienced, conscientious, and progressive staff.
The Mission - The mission of Niwot Elementary is to educate all students so they develop to their highest academic and creative potential and become productive citizens in an ever changing world.
School Improvement Process - Every public school in the state of Colorado (K-12) is required to be involved in school
improvement planning and makes full disclosure to the public regarding these goals.
Parents, school personnel, and community representatives join together on the School Improvement
Advisory Council to:
* assess the needs of students * set goals to improve student performance * implement procedures to
attain those goals *
report results to the community
The school's specific goal in 2000-01 is to improve student performance skills in written communication.
This is the fourth and final year for the writing goal.
The staff, parents and community members make significant contributions to the educational
environment at Niwot Elementary. Parents are valuable, welcomed volunteers in all areas of the
school, from fund raising to daily assistance in classrooms which enhances the educational experiences
of all children.
Standardized Test Results - The Colorado Student Assessment Program
(CSAP) is used to measure whether or not students have met Colorado State Standards.
Niwot Elementary School's test results for 2000 were 89% of third graders and 91% of fourth graders
proficient or above.

The Community School Program at Niwot Elementary offers a wide variety of after-school classes, movies, field trips, and enrichment activities. The Community School's outstanding preschool program prepares children for kindergarten and encourages children to "love to learn." The excellent before and after school child care program, Cougar Club, promotes the wellbeing of families and the education of children.
